Stability and Characterization of Clay Dispersions

In many technical fields (pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, paint and varnishes) the thickening effect of colloidal additives is used regularly.  Layered silicates with high swelling properties have a broad range of applications.  Various clay products with different properties are available on the market to match specific demands.  Determination of separation and swelling properties is essential for product optimization and control; however, methods available for these purposes are generally time consuming.  The intent of the present report is to demonstrate the potential of the novel separation analyzer LUMiFuge for fast and reproducible characterization of settling behavior and stability.
